I've never heard of this, perhaps it's to prevent any irritation? If you have special issues with your skin I'd suggest a facial before the prom and then ask the pro what you need to do (go without makeup, special cleaning/moisturizing, etc.) to have your skin glowing the best. You can shop around for a reasonable facial.
