When the instructions on a washing machine says- 3kilograms of clothing- how many items make up 3kg?

How do you know you have 2kg or 3kg of clothing - especially if you do not have a scale at home. When the instructions on a washing machine says- 3kilograms of clothing- how many items make up 3kg?
The idea of comparing to a bag of sugar is a good one. However don't do what some one else suggested and just fill up the machine. There is a big difference between washing a load of natural fibre, a load of mixed fibres and a load of synthetics. Usually a synthetic cycle (such as delicates 40') is loaded to half the weight of a cottons cycle. This means a standard (not extra capacity) front loader that takes a 6kg wash will actually only take 3kg on a synthetic cycle. Failure to observe this can result in a poor wash but will definitely result in excess creasing of the garments. For optimum results do wash synthetics separate to natural fibres but if you do have to do a mixed wash do it on a synthetic cycle.

The rule of thumb is on a synthetic cycles the drum should be loosely packed but visibly only half full, on a cotton cycle the drum should be loosely packed but no more than three quarters visibly full.

Never pack a front loader as it works on the principle that the paddles on the side of the drum lifts the garments up to the top where they fall down creating the agitation to remove soiling. Fully packed machine will just keep dipping the washing in and out of the washing solution and so you don't get a good wash and the machine will not rinse well. When the instructions on a washing machine says- 3kilograms of clothing- how many items make up 3kg?
Usually one large item weighs between 300 and 500 grams. An entire set of queen sheets (bottom and top sheets and four pillowcases) would weigh about 4 kg. (Edit: I just weighed my heavy cotton sheets and they weigh 3.7 kg for the lot, but the thin cotton ones I put on the guest bed barely weigh 1.5 kg. So it depends on the thickness of your sheets.)

You have a very low-capacity washing machine: my small washer can handle up to 10 kg.
yea i don't think anybody actually weights their washing, just put it in until it's full, don't pack it all down tightly but get as much as you can in.
There are 2.2 lbs per kg. So multiply 2.2 by 2 or 3 lbs and you get 4.4 lbs or 6.6 lbs.
Its only about 6 lbs of clothes. This must be a really small washer.

Fill it completely to the top. Do not pack it down tightly.
Compare with a bag of sugar or flour.
